Cut & Re-thread: Shaping the Present
In such a large yet rather small world, it is often defined by schedules, deadlines and responsibilities, that may require a quiet longing to reconnect with the enthusiasm and curiosity we once possessed as young ones. Embracing this thing called childlike energy not only restores our sense of wonder but also holds the key to unlocking a more imaginative and fulfilling adult life. "Now I know, I know, I totally understand what your thinking; "I HATE BEING AN ADULT", particularly for those who grew up pretty fast with the responsibilities of an adult as a child. What a ton of weight it can be on your shoulders when trying to balance being a kid and being a provider at the same time.
Let's take it back to my High School self in the year 2000, when I was invited to join the "Virtual Enterprise" class. As a curious teen who always had some adult-like role to play, I accepted the invitation to help with a junior production company that specialized in teaching us students how to operate a corporation and prepare ourselves for a virtual business world. The teacher who played the role as an office secretary by the name of Mrs. Pauline had assigned me the role as an accountant to handle our office payroll; which authorized me to utilize the knowledge I've gained in math. My position consisted of managing digital files that held reports of everyone's time, their actual pay, tax deductions, predictions on when to scale back for budgeting and distributing checks. Now although these were voided checks, it felt so real and in fact it sorta was. This was no ordinary classroom filled with up to 30 students learning an old boring subject; this was a combination of two large classrooms that was constructed to appear like a commercial office with built-in walls to separate each department and held no more than 7 of us to operate the business. Mrs. P. had an entire system running smoothly with no physical "money" might I add, yet built off of the intelligence of the students who understood Sales & Marketing, Advertisement, Production and Financing all aiming for a greater understanding of the future and how virtual reality would play out. Although technology was completely brand new to us all, it shaped us into a futuristic process which we're all currently living today with very little money. "Hold that thought!"
Personally when its that time for me to hang up the adult duties, I like to honor my childlike self by doing a good majority of things that only kids may think of doing. Things like going to the zoo just to watch the wild animals do exactly what they're here on earth to do or taking the initiative to learn more about the different insects and how they actually operate to sustain; and if your familiar with textiles, then you would know as humans we all benefit from both animals and insects. I would also relive a hobby by drawing the things I take interest in during a quiet moment, simply because it can be soothing to the mind and even down to running wild singing & dancing in the pouring rain can surely make anyone laugh like no tomorrow. Now keep in mind, what works best for me, may not work best for you however I am certain of a multitude of things that you can also reflect on from what you would consider fun as a child and form a sense of balance that can truly help with an energy boost reciprocating time, motion and money.
I'll say my past teen experience had eventually broaden my perspective as an adult to the idea of Virtual Fashion, some like the many enterprises that are constructed on a regular basis in current time. Nowadays its implemented throughout the world in order to reduce the carbon footprint by forming collaborations amongst those who are in the realms of fashion, tech and sustainability making things more energy efficient or shall I say, less effort. Unfortunately these changes may get under some of y'all skin once your forced to reduce your comfortable adult habits the very moment laws are officially set in place; such as fines being giving to those who do not practice recycling and taxes being raised on the same old stuff your used to buying on the regular. These things are promoting eco-friendly ways to minimize waste, spending habits that can possibly cause a cultural shift on quality over quantity and perhaps help human kind for the long haul. So when they say "time is money and money is energy", what is your overall take on that saying? and how are you utilizing these energies? As a youngster growing up in the 80's, 90's & early 2000's we weren't quite worried about money yet somehow generated it with our time and motion that happened to transform into action in order to live and enjoy within the present.
When navigating this delicate balance beam between childlike energy and adult responsibilities, we may find that embracing these wonders and curiosities of our youthful selves can revive our approach to sustainability. When taking our adult tasks while infusing it with enthusiasm and creativity that normally most children would bring to the table for play, we can encourage artful solutions with a renewed sense of purpose. This natural blend of harmony not only enriches our personal growth but also propels us toward a more sustainable future, where there is joy within our responsibilities and a great sense of drive towards positive change for generations to come.
So if your still trying to figure out the saying, "work hard and play harder" I'm hear to tell you my friend, the balance that sustainability brings is here to stay and you need to get used to it for the purpose of supporting the overall environment, the global economy, as well as ones health and well-being.
